My guess at the dialogue in a thought-cloud of a Republican representative:
Okay...you won, you sneaky liberals....we'll let the poor stay poor ONLY if we're allowed to keep our pile of diamonds and gold medallions on top of this hill for our (no...MINE, not YOURS) children to sit on.
Deal?
Excellent.

Yeah, those Repubs are pretty sick tickets. "Sure, we'll up the minimum wage, but we're going to slash the mega-rich's taxes." What a crock!
I heard not to long ago that the megarich have spent something like 70 million dollars campaigning to end the estate tax --- something, that in the long run, would end up saving them 210 Billion dollars, or costing the Fed gov't 209 billion in lost tax revenue. (Bye-bye whatever tiny shreds of social program support there is left...)
You'd think that in a time of ridiculous gov't spending (hello? Iraq War?) that our elected officials wouldn't be trying to get rid of ways to bring in money. I guess keeping their mega-rich friends is more important than keeping the gov't financially sound. Too bad no one will give a shit about our Congressmen & women when we're living in an oligarchy.
We practically are anyway.
