Little pink houses
Tonight I had my normal does of work, bar and after-hours hipster party. It was all fun. Multiple peeps were met...
I had a good time at the party...it made me feel that I still have some connection with the hipster community. I don't know what it is...it's not style...or music...or work...but it's something. Maybe the discount living?
Beer. It's definitely beer.
But, as I was leaving the hipster party on east 13th street, my schnazy cd player aptly shuffled to Devo's "Working in a Coal Mine". The meaning of the song was immediately brought to my attention. Did Devo ( a bunch of white college educated boys who were covering a song written for minority coal miner's who worked from 5 a.m. til 8 p.m with a 42% chance of immediate death) actually see the true meaning of the song their were playing? I mean, they also did a cover of "Satisfaction"...did they get/not get that too? I'm a huge fan of the band...so, my opinions are skewed.
And...does gentrification actually count if the people are renting and are just up and coming yuppies, but not actually quite there yet? What does this say to the people who grew up in this neighborhood and who don't have such an easily accessible out?
I don't know dude...but the rent's cheap...and the house has a perfect nook for my studio...check it, yo.
