Don't worry...there's enough Pabst to go around!

Tonight, I had one of those not-frequent-enough fabulous evenings that make me so very happy to be in Austin. After a typical night at work, I went out to Ego's to experience some very fun live music.

I'd like to start off by saying that I'm torn between the live music scene here in this town. On one hand, there are so many opportunities for anybody who wants to play "whatever the fuck" at anytime. On the other hand, if you're a frequent night life patron, you maybe exposed to large doses of unsolicited shit. A lot of the time, I don't want to be overpowered by live music. But...I'll have to say...I'm really think that I'm more in favor of an environment that encourages people to find their calling...even if it ends up not being musical in nature.

So...at Ego's tonight, a friend of a friend told me she was playing...and I didn't really know what to expect. It turned out it was a very cool mix of very Austin casual guitar playing and singing. I'm not feeling creative enough to go into great detail about the whole atmosphere, but let's just say it was an all over good vibe. It was a small crowd of the "performers" (I'm only putting this in quotes because the the whole scene, although it was at a bar, totally had a feel of a bunch of peeps just hanging out and jamming) friends and everyone was truly into what was going on up on stage.

Ahhh...the whole thing was just so refreshing...it was topped off with another great Austin moment...driving home with the city lights speckling the river as the "art" under the Lamar/5th street underpass came into view. As a side not, am I the only one who is confused by meaning of the reflective blue plastic slabs?

Sometimes I just love this town.

Comments:
Apparently, according the artist, the blue tabs are supposed to mimic "motion" and serve as a transition from the river to downtown.

Yep. That's worth $45,000 of city money...

Yeah...I've heard that before and I think I've even seen that motion effect. But, it still just looks like a bunch of sqaure reflectors...to me, anyway...I've never been all that refined though.

oh, i forgot to mention this earlier...

"mmmm...Pabst..." :-)
